LAGOS—NIGERIA Labour Congress, NLC, has said the decision by President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to take 50 percent salaries cut was not enough, saying the nation’s leaders should imbibe the doctrine of selfless services as a sign of the change.
Deputy President of the Joe Ajaero-led faction of NLC, Mr. Issa Aremu, who spoke at a colloquium to mark the 10th anniversary of the Amilcar Cabral Ideological School, ACIS, in Lagos, contended that it was debatable if the President, who paid for nothing from toothpick to presidential jets, needed millions of naira as salaries.
Aremu, who is also the General Secretary, National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, said: “The best way to honour Cabral is to call on African leaders to selflessly serve their peoples.
“There is nowhere with as many self-serving leaders like Nigeria.
“The critical issue is bridging the widening wage gap. We must also stop multiple remunera-tions for few ruling elite, while legitimate pay is denied the workers.”
