You even tend to ignore your diet and sleep requirements for your newborn as the child requires constant attention. As a new parent, you may feel compelled to dedicate every available hour to tending to your baby’s needs. But don’t forget that parents have needs too, particularly when it comes to sleep.

6. Dr. Kyadiggeri also lists certain lifestyle habits that parents should adopt, when a newborn comes into their world:Try to sleep with your baby. This can promote bonding and regulate both the mother’s and baby’s sleep patterns, thereby helping you sleep a little more.
7. Select a calm and peaceful environment where your baby can sleep well. Try to feed your baby while lying down on your side. Many mothers find this to be a relaxing position at night.
8. Ask your partner, or a family member, to watch the baby while you nap.
9. While trying to sleep, avoid looking at the clock. Studies show that focusing on how much time you have left to sleep or how many times you woke up during the night can cause anxiety and lead to sleep deprivation.
10. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine. Nicotine and caffeine are stimulants, and although alcohol helps you fall asleep, it can cause restlessness during the night.
11. Try sleeping in shifts and have your partner take over some of the night-time feedings. Your partner can help by bringing the baby for breast feedings and changing the baby’s diaper so that you get more time to sleep.
